I must admit that I am not a fan of spooky things. Ghost tours, haunted hayrides, horror movies - just no thank you! However, I think almost everyone remembers the tale of The Headless Horseman by Washington Irving. This short story takes place in Sleepy Hollow, NY and the images of Ichabod Crane trying to get to the church for safety via the cemetery are still vivid for me, even years after reading the story. Sleepy Hollow, New York offers tours of the cemetery, the Old Dutch Church and other aspects of The Headless Horseman. The bridge where the chase took place is still there among other locations mentioned in the story. Sleepy Hollow is in a beautiful area of New York and would make a fun October trip. You can combine spooky with literature and history and sprinkle in scenic on top of everything!! Happy Halloween to All! Maybe it be a spooky (or not!) as you wish! -Cindy- |
