Safari, wine and penguins!  Our newest tour to south africa

4/18/2024

A safari with a side of wine or wine with a side of safari?! It's so difficult to know how to talk about our May 2025 South Africa adventure that Jana is leading.

This trip will include Cape Town (think penguins!),  a stay in the beautiful wine country of Cape Winelands, as well as a safari adventure at a Kapama private game reserve in Kruger National Park.

Cape Winelands is home to over 500 wineries.  It is a beautiful, tranquil place with gorgeous scenery. Here you can roam through vineyards nestled among rolling hills, sample award-winning wines, and savor gourmet cuisine amid stunning vistas.

You'll have an opportunity to see the Big 5 while in Kruger National Park.   Experience the thrill of a safari as you witness the majestic wildlife roaming freely in their natural habitat at Kapama Private Game Reserve. This untouched part of Africa is home to some of the most endangered, beautiful, and fascinating wildlife.

destination of the week
kruger national park, south africa

Where nearly 2 million hectares of unrivaled diversity of life forms fuses with historical and archaeological sights – this is real Africa. The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa.
Truly the flagship of the South African National Parks, this enormous and magnificent park is one of the most popular public-entry game parks in the world.
Few visitors leave South Africa without visiting the Kruger National Park or one of the private reserves along its borders but it is also frequented by locals in their own vehicles, as you can drive yourself around and stay overnight in one of the many public rest camps. There are also a few exclusive private lodges that have been granted concessions within the Kruger National Park. Kruger has 12 main rest camps, 5 bushveld camps, 2 bush lodges and 4 satellite camps.
The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. Established in 1898 to protect the wildlife of the South African Lowveld, this national park is unrivalled in the diversity of its life forms and a world leader in advanced environmental management techniques and policies. Kruger is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals.
Man’s interaction with the lowveld environment over many centuries – from bushman rock paintings to majestic archaeological sites like Masorini and Thulamela – is very evident in the Kruger National Park. These treasures represent the cultures, persons and events that played a role in the history of the Kruger National Park and are conserved along with the park’s natural assets.

Travel tip of the week
ensure you have super vision

Whether it's with binoculars or a zoom camera lens, make sure you have a way to see far.Animals are often further away than you think and even when they're nearby it's really cool to get a close-up.
For binoculars, get a pair with at least 10×50 magnification.
For photographs,  a 55-250mm zoom lens for a camera should do the trick just fine. And it will fit in your carry-on!

virtual vacation of the week

Kruger National Park is located in northeastern South Africa. It covers an area of 19'485 km2 (350 km by 60 km), almost the size of Wales (UK) (20'735 km2), Kruger is one of the largest natural game reserves in Africa. Founded in 1926, the park was called "Sabie Game Reserve" and now bears the name of the person who created it, Paul Kruger.
