CHEF JEFF’S CULINARY GROUP June 18 – 28, 2023 | FOOD & WINE OF SOUTHERN ITALY
DAY 1 : JUNE 18 : DEPART UNITED STATES DAY 2 : JUNE 18 : ARRIVE IN SORRENTO Welcome to Italy! Private transfer from the Naples Airport to the hotel in Sorrento. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to learn how to make authentic Neapolitan pizza followed by a pizza dinner and wine! Overnight at your hotel. DAY 3 : JUNE 19 : PRIVATE CAPRI TOUR Breakfast at your hotel. This morning we sail by hydrofoil to one of the world's most enchanting islands. Enjoy a full day guided excursion to the Isle of Capri, the magical and colorful island that has been a favorite resort destination since the time of the Roman Republic. You will enjoy an amazing view of the Island and the surroundings (Ischia, Gulf of Naples, and Mount Vesuvius). You'll have the opportunity to catch a chair lift to reach the highest point on the Island. Dinner at leisure & Overnight at your hotel. DAY 4 : JUNE 20 : SORRENTO After breakfast at your hotel you will transfer to Sorrento school for a unique cooking lesson in preparing some traditional Italian dishes with an emphasis on Neapolitan recipes. The menu will start with an appetizer, continue with a first and second course, and end with a delicious dessert. There will be a break during the 3 hour cooking class for a wine cellar tour and wine tasting. At the end of the cooking lesson, you will dine on the cuisine you created, by the pool, under the "Pergolato". Afternoon at leisure to relax or explore Sorrento on your own. Overnight at your hotel. DAY 5 : JUNE 21 : SORRENTO, CASTEL DEL MONTE and MATERA Early breakfast at your hotel and check out. You will transfer into the beautiful region of Basilicata by bus, making a stop along the way before heading into Matera. We will be walking in the footsteps of Frederick II, the Holy Roman Emperor. Marvel at the Castel del Monte with its eight octagonal towers which is what makes this structure so unique. Lunch on Pugliese farm, tasting the specialties of the area. Dinner at leisure & Overnight at your hotel in "I Sassi" Free night to explore. DAY 6 : JUNE 22 : MATERA Breakfast at the hotel. Explore Matera with a private food tour including the city's landmarks and tasting of local food & wine. Visit a variety of restaurants and food shops for tastings of authentic local food specialties. View important highlights such as the Church of Purgatorio, the Sasso Barisano and a typically furnished house-grotto where people lived until the 1950s. Your tour includes a half day guide, food and wine tastings, a 3-course lunch and snacks. Overnight at your hotel. DAY 7 : JUNE 23 : MATERA - POLIGNANO A MARE After breakfast at your hotel, check out of the hotel and transfer to your private bus to Polignano a Mare. Check in at your hotel and join the cooking lesson! We will buy fresh fish together at a fish market in the beautiful Apulian town of Polignano a Mare. We will move to an ancient farmhouse where an expert local cook will show you how to make fresh pasta and prepare the seafood you bought. The class will end with a tasting of what you prepared during the lesson, served with excellent Apulian wine. Overnight at your hotel. DAY 8 : JUNE 24 : POLIGNANO A MARE Alberobello and Panzerotti Cooking Class Today you will have a fabulous experience: a guided tour of this quaint and unique town known for the world famous "Trulli" (cone shaped houses). Their origins remain a mystery, the town church itself is a large Trullo. Continue to your Deep-Fried Panzerotti Cooking Class. An expert cook will guide you in preparing the dough from scratch, creating the savory stuffing and the delicate task of deep frying them. Their preparation is not so easy; however, their flavor will reward all of the efforts in trying to cook them. The class will end with you enjoying your panzerotto comfortably seated around a table laden with typical Apulian food. The rest of the day at your leisure. Overnight at your hotel. DAY 9 : JUNE 25 : POLIGNANO A MARE Breakfast at your hotel followed by a half-day olive oil tour and tasting. visit the press and learn everything about local olive varieties and production methods from an expert. Learn how it is made, the importance of the cold press, how to buy and store it and how to read the label! So much information that only locals know that you won't find in any tourist guidebook. Lunch at a local restaurant followed by a half-day guided tour of Lecce Your guide will introduce you to this lovely city, filled with exuberant decorations on it facades. Visit the Basilica Santa Croce in Piazza Sant'Ornozo, site of the Roman ruins of a 25,000 seat amphitheater from the 1st century BC. The Duomo (cathedral) stands in one of the most beautiful squares of Italy. Stroll down Via Palmieri, a main street of Lecce city center, stopping at your leisure to watch artisans working in their shops. Dinner at leisure & Overnight at your hotel. DAY 10 : JUNE 26 : TRANI and the Queen of Italian cheeses: THE BURRATA Breakfast at your hotel. This morning explore the historic seaport of Trani. Known for its Moscato di Trani wine and savory figs, this fishing town is home to a 13th-century fort and a cathedral nestled in the harbor of the Adriatic. Free time for lunch on your own in Trani. The afternoon you will be taken to the heart of the cheese factory to discover the real Apulian mozzarella. It will be a journey to discover the true taste of mozzarella and its derivatives, you will have the opportunity to know the secrets of this ancient craft and taste the mozzarella just made. Farewell dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at your hotel.
