You will taste Chardonnay in a cellar in Macon, explore Old Town Lyon on a culinary walk, visit Beaujolais, hike in castle vineyards in Tournon, sample the charming French Country village of Viveirs, & experience the cellars of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
What is a Master of Wine? A Master of Wine (MW) is someone who has demonstrated, by way of rigorous exam, a thorough understanding of all aspects of wine and an ability to communicate clearly. Masters of Wine represent a broad diversity of professions within the wine world. Some travel the globe as a consultant, while others put down roots as a winemaker to produce their own expression of a particular piece of terroir. Trip dates are October 30-Nov. 7, 2023

Master of Wine Burgundy & Provence River Cruise October 30 – November 7, 2023 | FOOD & WINE OF SOUTHERN FRANCE
DAY 1 : OCTOBER 30 : DEPART UNITED STATES DAY 2 : OCTOBER 31: ARRIVE IN Chalon-sur-Saône Welcome to France! Private transfer from the Lyon Airport to the ship. If time allows, explore the stunning gardens and visit the Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans. Guests will need to be on board the ship by 5pm.
DAY 3 : NOVEMBER 1: MACON Experience wine and cheese tasting today on the stunning Saone. Join a class on wine hosted by your Master of Wine while sailing to Macon. Visit a Chardonnay cellar for a wine tasting in Macon. DAY 4 : NOVEMBER 2: LYON Discover Lyon's architectural district by bike with your Adventure Host, over bridges, and along the banks where the Rhône and Saône rivers meet, OR: Join a Guided Sightseeing Tour to survey Lyon from Fourvière Hill with its numerous churches. You’ll also explore the Old Town with its maze of medieval alleyways, and the lively cafés, monuments, and famed fountain of Place des Terreaux. Be our guest for a WWII & French Resistance lecture on board your ship. Enjoy entertainment after dinner. DAY 5 : NOVEMBER 3: LYON Join a Culinary Walk through the city to discover why Lyon is known as the gastronomic capital of France. Take a guided tour to the lovely Beaujolais area and learn more about its light and pleasant wine This evening, join an onboard food and wine pairing dinner hosted by your Master of Wine.
DAY 6 : NOVEMBER 4: TOURNON & VIVERS Hike in the vineyards and take in the breathtaking views from the hills, OR: Take a morning Guided Walking Tour to explore Tournon—one of France’s oldest medieval cities. See its 16th century castle, and Roman ruins between the Rhône River and the granite slopes of the Hermitage. The tour also includes a wine and chocolate tasting at the Cité du Chocolat at Valrhona. You will also experience World History in a Charming French Country Village in Vivers. Explore the pale-stone buildings of Viviers on a late afternoon Guided Walking Tour of this charming village. You’ll see its Romanesque cathedral and Old Town with a mix of historical Christian, Roman, and medieval influences. Enjoy onboard entertainment after dinner. DAY 7 : NOVEMBER 5: AVIGNON Take a Guided Sightseeing Tour of the fortress city of Avignon—with its ramparts encircling the city—and a visit to the amazing Palace of the Popes. Enjoy a trip to the famed wine cellars of Châteauneuf-du-Pape for a true taste of the Rhône wine region. Enjoy onboard entertainment after dinner. DAY 8 : NOVEMBER 6: ARLES Get your daily dose of exercise through Nordic walking in Arles with your Adventure Host, OR: Attend a Painting Workshop to learn techniques of Vincent van Gogh. You’ll create your own painting in the style of the legendary artist, OR: Enjoy a Guided Walking Tour of Arles—the captivating city of the Provence region. You’ll visit the Roman Amphitheater in this visually stunning city. Consider a Guided Optional Excursion to the Carrières de Lumières (Cathedral of Images) a unique experience of art, sound, and light in the old quarries of Val d’Enfer. Take free time to stop in Le Café Van Gogh for a glass of wine. DAY 9 : NOVEMBER 7: PORT ST. LOUIS Breakfast on the ship. Morning transfer to the Airport to catch your flight back to the USA.

Your tour will be hosted by Jana Greenfield. In the event that Jana is unable to travel, the group will be hosted by another Bon Voyage Boutique Travel team member. Please note, in the unlikely event that a host is unable to travel, your cancellation would not be covered by insurance.
