New Zealand itinerary

Day 1 l Tuesday January 21st
Hello and welcome to New Zealand! Upon your arrival in Nelson, after collecting your luggage, your local guide/ driver will assist you with the transfer to your hotel.


Day 2 l Wednesday January 22nd
This morning after breakfast, you will be met by your local guide at the hotel lobby for a
Half day tour around a minimum of two wineries with tastings included. Further details at confirmation of tour.

Day 3 l Thursday January 23rd
Today after breakfast, you will be collected from your hotel and taken on a Full Day Excursion in the Abel Tasman National Park.

If you are feeling energetic, walk the forested track around Bark Bay Inlet to see Bark Bay Falls and Swing Bridge. 4 km (2.5 miles), approx. 1 hr return. Walk to the impressively high Swing Bridge over Falls River, then return to Medlands Beach. 5kms (3 miles) approx. 1.5 hrs return. 
Facilities at Bark Bay include the Dept. of Conservation shelter, flush toilets, picnic tables, and filtered drinking water.


Day 4 l Friday January 24th

Today after breakfast will be a full day at leisure. 

Day 5 l Saturday January 25th - Nelson - Greymouth - Christchurch
Today after breakfast at the hotel, meet with your driver at the hotel lobby and transfer to Greymouth railway station for your Train journey to Christchurch.

Today you will board the Tranz Alpine scenic train departing from one coast of New Zealand and arriving at the other. Your train journey is 223.8 kilometers long and takes just four and a half hours. There are 16 tunnels and 5 viaducts, the highest being the Staircase standing at 73 metres. From your carriage, you’ll see the fields of the Canterbury Plains, beautiful gorges, and river valleys of the Waimakariri River. The spectacular Southern Alps and the lushness of the Beech rain forest. An open-air viewing carriage allows you to get even closer to the stunning scenery and provides many opportunities to photograph your favorite spots. There’s a lot to look forward to before arriving at your destination.

Day 6 l Sunday January 26th - Christchurch

Today will be a full day at leisure with an available coach to the group until 10 PM. Traditional Kiwi summer dinner - dinner included - drinks on your own

Day 7 l Monday January 27th - Christchurch - Tekapo - Mount Cook
Today after breakfast and check out of the hotel, depart Christchurch for Lake Tekapo. Drive through the farms and fields of the Canterbury Plain. The scenic route leads you through the Mackenzie Country, named after the legendary Scottish sheep rustler who once roamed the area. Lunch stop will be at a famous Meat Pie shop in Fairlie!! Geoff’s favorite.
En route visit the famous Church of the Good Shepherd on stunning Lake Tekapo.
Join us for New Zealand’s premier mountaintop astronomy experience. An awe-inspiring evening of discovery from the Summit of Mount John, home to the world-renowned University of Canterbury Mount John Observatory.  In June 2012, a 4,500m2 region of the Mackenzie Basin became an International Dark Sky Reserve - now known as the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. It is the largest of its kind in the world, and the first to achieve gold status in recognition of its pristine condition by the IDA (International Dark-Sky Association). Spend the evening discovering our illustrious night skies from the heart of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. A truly breathtaking experience, our expert astronomy guides will introduce you to the Southern Skies, imparting their impressive knowledge as you gaze through sophisticated optical telescopes. The ultimate astronomy experience in the internationally renowned Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. 


Day 8 l Tuesday January 28th - Tekapo - Mount Cook - Wanaka
Today after breakfast and check out of the hotel, depart to Wanaka via Mt. Cook.  The picturesque road from Mt Cook to Lake Tekapo guides you down the Tasman Valley and around beautiful Lake Pukaki. You cannot help but stop and take photos of the lakes in this area due to the stunning, unique turquoise color of the waters which is caused by fine, glacier-ground rock particles. 
This region is a mountaineer's dream, offering some of the best climbing experiences in Australasia. For the less adventurous, choose from the array of shorter walks and take in the stunning alpine landscapes of herb fields, moraines, glaciers, and cheeky kea. Mount Cook National Park is also the home of New Zealand's longest glacier. Get up close with a Tasman Glacier boat trip, or for something a little different take a scenic flight and view the glacier from above aboard a ski plane or helicopter. Depart Mt Cook and continue your trip to Wanaka.


Day 9 l Wednesday January 29th - Wanaka
Today is a full day at leisure to enjoy and explore on your own time. 

Day 10 l Thursday January 30th - Wanaka - Te Anau
This morning after breakfast, check out of the hotel and depart on our journey to the Fiorland region and make our way to Te Anau. 

Check-in at The Real NZ Visitor Centre Te Anau, located at 85 Lakefront Drive 20 minutes before departure.
Cruise across beautiful Lake Te Anau, to the Cavern House. On arrival, learn about the caves and view fascinating displays. Your guides will then take you in small groups by path and small boats underground into the caves. Highlights include incredible limestone caverns, whirlpools, waterfalls, and the magical glow-worm grotto. Return to Te Anau.


Day 11 l Friday January 31st - Te Anau - Doubtful Sound 

Today after breakfast, Transfer to the village of Manapouri to join your full-day tour.
Depart from Pearl Harbour, Manapouri, and cruise across picturesque Lake Manapouri to West Arm. Travel by coach over Wilmot Pass, through dense rainforest. Once at Doubtful Sound, board the Patea Explorer, for a 3-hour cruise of beautiful Doubtful Sound, to the Tasman Sea. There is excellent viewing of waterfalls, rainforests, and mountains. Of particular interest, if sighted, are fur seals basking on the rocks, or a resident pod of bottlenose dolphins. The rare Fiordland crested penguins are sometimes encountered, depending on the season. Return to Manapouri at the end of your journey. A Picnic Lunch is included. After the tour transfer back to Te Anau and the rest of the evening is at leisure.

Day 12 l Saturday February 1st - Te Anau - Queenstown
Today after breakfast and check out, transfer to Queenstown for the next 4 nights. 

Day 13 l Sunday February 2nd - Queenstown - Glenorchy 

Today will be full day of Guided Funyaks Experience on the Dart River, including Jet boat and lunch. 

Day 14 l Monday February 3rd - Queenstown 

Today is a full day at leisure to enjoy and explore on your own time.

Day 15 l Tuesday February 4th - Walter Peak

This morning is at leisure until the group will be picked up for a scenic cruise and Country Farm Walter Peak with a Gourmet BBQ Dinner. 
A dining experience that's unlike any other in Queenstown, guests disembark from their cruise at Walter Peak where they are escorted through the lakeside gardens to the recently refurbished Colonel's Homestead and seated for dinner. Relax in the unique ambiance in front of a roaring open fire and soak in the views from this stunning lakeside setting while chefs prepare a gourmet BBQ on the outdoor grill. Enjoy a selection of succulent New Zealand meat and seafood accompanied by delectable seasonal salads, tasty dessert treats, and local cheeses. All meat and seafood are cooked on the outdoor BBQ and rotisserie in view of guests and served immediately (buffet style). A locally influenced wine list and other beverages are available for purchase from the bar. After your meal, guests join an entertaining farm experience that gives guests an insight into the life of a New Zealand high country including a sheep shearing demonstration. The night cruise home is magical. Join in the camaraderie of a sing-a-long with the ship's pianist on the return journey.

Day 18 l Wednesday February 5th - Depart Queenstown

Check out from the Hotel. Meet your driver at the hotel lobby and transfer to Christchurch Airport for your departure flight.
